The usual cause of your issue is that the Normal template is an older version. You can open Normal and resave it in the current format, which should solve the problem. If you don't know how to locate Normal. In that window, type or paste NormalTemplate. OpenAsDocument and press Enter.

This is a new computer and thus a new install of Office - Word No previous versions of Office on this machine.
