Sorry this didn't help. The stackoverflow link suggested looking at sub processes and analysing a wait tree.

I maybe didn't read the instructions properly. Killed one of the sub processes then anylysed the other one. That showed nothing. Too late I realised I messed up, so killed the other one and tried to run the installer again.

It came up with a message saying it couldn't install until the computer was restarted with updates. Sure enough the normal restart option under Start said Restart and Install Updates, so that's what I did.

Back in Windows ran the installer again. There was no option to repair the existing installation so just selected the Default install, but this time it went through it a lot quicker. I'm guessing because the installation was in many parts before and most had completed. At the end it reported that it had failed to install Office. Maybe thats because I already have Office installed. I'm guessing These fixes address high-impact bugs that were either found by the product team or reported by the community.
